Rotary Club of Weston organizes event that raises money for college-bound students

WESTON, Fla. - The 2016 Golf Classic raised $100,000 to help college-bound students in west Broward County. The Rotary Club of West organized the classic and a raffle party to fund college scholarships for seniors at Cypress Bay High School and Sagemont in Weston, and Western High School in Davie and HANDY   “We hit it out of the ballpark again this year,” said Michael Freedland, whose law firm has served as title sponsor for the past six years. “Thanks to our golfers and wonderful sponsors, dozens of students will get much needed help with their college expenses.”

Freedland added $100,000 is the most raised by the events in any given year.

Golfers hit the Weston Hills Country Club Monday, ate a full lunch buffet, and won travel packages, golf tournaments, spa packages, sports memorabilia, and gift certificates.

Awards were given to the winners of the overall tournament as well as to those who won closest to the pin and longest drive on each course.

“Awarding scholarships to area students fits perfectly into the Rotary Club of Weston’s mission to provide services to youth and families in our community,” said Mary Beth Casey, who chaired the tournament along with Freedland and Keith Petron. “We look forward to this every year because it helps so many people.”

The Rotary Club of Weston usually awards between $60,000 and $100,000 in scholarships per year.
