Rotary Club of Weston

Worldwide Humanitarian Service Organization

The Rotary Club of Weston has been a part of the landscape of the City of Weston since December 18, 1986, and today is recognized as one of the leading community service organizations in Southwest Broward County.

At the Rotary Club of Weston we focus our community service activities in the areas of Services to Youth (including education / scholarship / learning development) and Services to Families In Need through volunteerism, the application of member skills, organizational resources, and our fundraising activities and events. You may have participated in or attended a Weston Rotary event such as the annual “Scholarship Golf Classic” at Weston Hills CC, the annual “Run for Tomorrow & Family Festival” (formerly known as the “Rotary Holiday Run”).

Over the past decades the Rotary Club of Weston has awarded more than $1,000,000 in college scholarships to hundreds of graduating seniors from Cypress Bay, Western High School, Sagemont and HANDY; young men and women of our community who have clearly demonstrated an exceptional combination of academic achievement and commitment to community service. Weston Rotary has also contributed more than $500,000 from its annual “Run for Tomorrow & Family Festival” to local charities, non-profit organizations, and the Rotary Foundation.

The more than 120 men and women of the Rotary Club of Weston are business owners and managers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, educators, artists, clergy, energetic retirees and, most importantly, your neighbors. Rotary provides members with a unique opportunity to serve others by participating in projects to enhance their local community and to help those in need throughout the world. From its inception, the Rotary Club of Weston is committed to participating in activities and raising funds for community and international projects.

President's Message

Weston Rotary Club President Brad Coren

Rotary Making A Difference

By: Brad E. Coren, President, Rotary Club of Weston 2017-18

As the Rotary Club of Weston enters its 31st year as the premier community service organization in Broward County, we take time to reflect upon this year's theme  "Rotary:  Making a Difference."  Each year, Rotary International selects a theme which best states what Rotary does worldwide.  Ian Risely, Rotary International  President for the 2017-18 Rotary year, chose this theme to exemplify what Rotary has accomplished in the past, namely, and most recently, the eradication of polio in all but 3 countries worldwide.  However, the theme also is a bold shout out to the 1.5 million Rotarians worldwide that our service to humanity never ends.

It is an absolute honor and privilege to lead the Rotary Club of Weston in the coming Rotary year beginning on July 1.  The Rotary Club of Weston is a large, diverse and ever evolving group of professionals that similarly believe the Rotary Service Above Self Motto and in the power of helping those in need in our community and our world.

Our club sets out to foster, encourage and facilitate numerous meaningful and much needed community service projects throughout Weston, Broward County and across the globe.  Locally, we will continue to work on initiatives, including but not limited to, Life Net 4 Families, The Harvest Drive, Hope Outreach and Susan B. Anthony Center for Recovery.  Globally, in 2017, our club will focus on literacy projects in Panama and  clean water projects in the Bahamas,  Colombia  and Guatemala.   Of course, we will also continue our unyielding support of the Polio Plus Program to ensure that we have a polio free world by the end of 2018.  All projects are funded from the proceeds of our major charity event, the Rotary Run for Tomorrow, which will occur later this year on December 10, 2017 at Cypress Bay High School.

Our club also remains steadfast in its commitment to develop the leaders of tomorrow.  Our other major event is our 31st annual golf tournament which provides us with the funds in support of college scholarships.  Last month, our club awarded over 30 college scholarships to graduating seniors at Cypress Bay High School, Western High School, and Sagemont School and HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected and Disadvantaged Youth).  These awards totaled well over $110,000.00 and best exemplify why we remain one of the premier scholarship programs in Broward County, in conjunction with a strong community partnership with the Broward Education Foundation.

With all said about our accolades above, I am most proud of the exemplary manner in  which our members go about to achieve their service goals.  Our members are warm, passionate, engaging and eager to share with new members their heart for Service Above Self and the family of Rotary.   I personally invite you to join us for breakfast on Thursday mornings  at 7:30 am. at Weston Hills Country Club to learn more about the club.  Please contact brad@bradcorenlaw.com for additional information.  Come serve with us and make a real difference in 2017!
